Every year on October 10th, World Mental Health Day is organized and celebrated diligently around the globe. While not everyone may celebrate the same day, week, or month, the importance and cause still remain prevalent. This year especially has been a tough one for us all. The months of lockdown and loss have had a huge impact on our mental health. This year sets up a whole new precedent for World Mental Health Day.
The emphasis on mental health has come a long way since the first World Mental Health Day back in 1992. Since then, massive strides have been made that have allowed for mental health to be an ongoing conversation, rather than taboo. As many of us are experiencing different shifts in our lives such as but not limited to: returning back to school, change of career, balancing multiple degrees, family, and learning how to navigate new moments completely virtual; we all need to remember to take time to make our mental health a priority. Ways to help us overcome these moments when we feel ~stuck~ can be as simple as a change in mindset, or take some time to unwind, but even more encouraging to seek help professionally. Although we cannot see or measure the mental health of any person, in reality, it is the most visible.
Whether it's going for a walk, learning a new skill or doing something creative, taking the first steps to getting support for yourself, or reaching out to someone else; take the opportunity to do one thing this World Mental Health Day and reach out to resources to help you or a friend get started.
