As I start counting down the days till graduation, I reflect on my time as an MBA student. One of the most rewarding experiences I have had was holding executive board positions in multiple organizations within the MBA program. I genuinely believe that my journey as an MBA student was much more fruitful because of my decision to run for an E-Board position. As leaders in organizations, students can develop critical skills and collaborate by working in teams. Additionally, running for board positions allows for students to gain skills in large scale project management. By hosting events and providing resources for students, board members serve as a liaison between the organization and the greater program body. The beauty of these organizations is that there is a place for everyone. Whatever your area of study, identity or interests are, the organizations within the MBA program cultivate a sense of community and engagement that allows us all to connect in some way. While serving in these positions, I was able to engage with many more students than I normally would have and was given access to resources that could have helped better the program as a whole. It is important to take advantage of these opportunities and run for leadership positions because you not only get to support and serve your student body, but you are able to gain valuable experience that looks great on your resume. As a 2nd year, I encourage my fellow 1st year students to take the chance –– you are only in school for so long and a critical part of that is making those lifelong connections that are not simply made in the classroom.
